Chromium tab crashes if video

Sat Dec 17, 2016 4:46 pm

I have the latest 4.9... kernel and chromium crashes with video, I installed rpi-chromium-mods package... how can I make chromium use omxplayer or ffmpeg?

There have been some issues with the above, since the chromium-browser [Version 51.0.2704.91 Built on Ubuntu 14.04, running on Raspbian 8.0] was included in "Raspbian Jessie with Pixel DE" (presuming that is your Operating System)

Kernel 4.9 is still in testing: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=167934&p=1082917

Hey, I have the same issue, and I am using 4.4.34-v7+ and Chromium Version 51.0.2704.91

Its a bug I can see on FullPageOS RC1,
if you want to reproduce it you can downlong our RC1 image here:
https://github.com/guysoft/FullPageOS/issues/92

Steps to reproduce (happends also in current base image, no need for new kernel):
1. Download:
http://docstech.net/FullPageOS/nightly/ ... .0_RC1.zip
md5:
http://docstech.net/FullPageOS/nightly/ ... C1.zip.md5
(or you can build devel branch from https://github.com/guysoft/FullPageOS)

2. Set up wifi/connect to ethernet
3. After boot vnc, or press ctrl+tab to open a new chromium window (Chromium starts at boot)
4. Put the URL:
https://graftechnology.s3.amazonaws.com ... ablet9.mp4

Expected: video should play
Result: get an "awww snap" page

Notes: if you add the tab to FullPageDashboard, and the tab is not selected, you can hear the video playing, but once you switch to it so it becomes visable it crahes.

I am new to the Raspberry Pi. I am impressed with the Pi3 but I am experiencing a few issues with the Chromium browser. I have read a number of posts on this forum and it is not clear to me how I can report issues.

What is the best way to report issues with Chromium?

The problem I am having occurs when I play a You Tube video in full screen mode. The video will pause every 5 seconds for about 1 second and then resume. If I play the video in non-full-screen mode, it plays fine.

I am running an unmodified (not updated) image of Raspbian with Pixel. I downloaded the image using NOOBS on December 25, 2016.

This is the "About" information from Chromium:
"Version 51.0.2704.91 Built on Ubuntu 14.04, running on Raspbian 8.0"

Is anything being reported in the terminal?

This is the best place. Full screen is a bit problematic and may result in some stuttering. Anything reported when run from the terminal? H264ify extension is there?

It seems that chromium 60/Stretch does not do this anymore. I am not 100% I am running the same tests, but you guys are welcome to test and report too.

Just out of interest How many of your Pi's have black heatsinks?

I found after 4-5 hours of full screen videos my Pi's without heatsinks used to lockup.
Also I have set 272 mb of video memory in the Raspberry Pi Configuration page.
You can right click on a youtube video and select Stats for Nerds and it gives a result for dropped frames as the video is playing.

The other browser is called Web it looks to have slightly better video performance but does not support tabbed browsing like Chromium does.
