gui/skin for omxplayer

Sun Nov 20, 2016 1:38 pm

Hi all

First off: i don't know what it's called (if someone could tell me that)

I'd like for the console, some software like a filemanager for videos, and when i've selected one i hit enter/return and omxplayer starts playing it.

Any ideas?

You can configure Raspbian to play a video in OMXplayer when you double-click on it by right-clicking on the video, going to open with, and selecting custom command.

Under Command line to execute: enter, omxplayer -b
Check, Execute in terminal emulator
Add an application name, and check Set selected application as default action for this file type.

You will have to do this once for each file type (mkv, mp4, avi, etc...).

After that, double-clicking on a video will launch it full screen in OMXplayer. Hit "q" to quit playback early. omxplayer --help, or man omxplayer for more info.

There is also an OMXplayer GUI application you can install.
My mind is like a browser. 27 tabs are open, 9 aren't responding,
lots of pop-ups...and where is that annoying music coming from?

I found that SMPlayer can be a nice functioning GUI for OMXplayer....
I use that and it utilize OMXplayer for its engine.... and it acted as a GUI only.....

can be installed using apt-get

SMPlayer is a graphical user interface (GUI) for the award-winning MPlayer, which is capable of playing almost all known video and audio formats. But apart from providing access for the most common and useful options of MPlayer, SMPlayer adds other interesting features like the possibility to play Youtube videos or download subtitles.

For sound, go to sound tab in the Preferences and select ALSA.
My bad, actually leave the Video to default User Defined: xv,

It'll play the 1080p video smoothly without any problem.
