5 Month delivery time ..RS?

Hi, is this normal,
Last week I ordered 5 Pi's and I've received an estimated delivery time of the 5 January 2013.

Is this normal?

It is an estimate it is rather dependent on where you are in the world.

Some US users have tried ordering from RS and then had issues and had better delivery quotes ussing Allied the US branch of RS Components and a lot have cancled and re-ordered with better results.

Of course as more people cancel your estimated date will shorten.

This is what RS appear to be currently quoting! There are certainly plenty of reports of excessive delays between placing an order with RS and geeting delivery, with this bein exacerbated by the fact that they take the money up-front.

It is sharp contrast to Farnell/Element 14 who are quoting 3 weeks (and seem to normally be beating that estimate) and aslo only seem to be charging on despatch.

I'd suggest that you cancel with RS and order through Farnell/element14. Getting your money back from RS will be another ball game altogether, though.

Good idea. I just cancelled right now. I would rather pay over the odds elsewhere now to get some certainty, or at least timely (i.e respectful) handling of communication.

The local distributors for Farnell are Electorcomp Express here in South Africa, and their price is 32% more expensive, so I don't really have much of a choice, I'll hang in and wait.
Luckily I have one already,

Let's hope they don't ship all the revision 1 boards to Africa like everyone else normally does,
