Pi with Andromium Superbook

Fri Aug 19, 2016 12:34 am

The Andromium Superbook is a Kickstarter project:

The Superbook is a shell, that uses DisplayLink technology, and apparently will work with just about any computer device that supports USB-OTG. On many phones it also supports simultaneous charging.

The project developers have reported that it also works with the Pi. They have posted a photo, but no details yet:

They state that the DisplayLink technology, which only transmits changes in the video, won't use up all of the USB bandwidth and it is still usable for other purposes.

I have pledged for one, at US$99 plus postage. Only 38 hours to go!

This is where they announced Pi compatibility:

I backed a similar project, the NexDock, on Indiegogo:

See this topic: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=136574

This Superbook-project seems to have an easier start than the NexDock, which also has considerable delays in production. But I expect to receive my NexDock in a couple of weeks.

Hi, I also checked Nextdock but it has one major drawback - they base their solution on Windows 10 mobile (may I call it a niche product ??) and therefore have a hard time to get into the air.

Superbook claims to bring their own continuum experience with them - and that is what the android users supporting them most obvious are lacking.

That is also why I did back Superbook, but to be honest having either a Pi or a Odroid as the Heart would be way cooler than using the Smartphone :)

As far as I know the NexDock can be used with Android smartphones and iPhones, as well as Windows 10 smartphones.
Not that it matters to me, I want to use it with a Pi.

The biggest drawback of the super book seems to be that you need driver support for it, and the display goes over USB. The nexdock uses HDMI + BT, so no special drivers needed. Anything that has an HDMI out and BT keyboard/mouse support will work.YOu can even use the nexdock as an external monitor for e.g. a DVD player or somesuch. This won't work for the superbook.
The superbook sounds nice, but flexibility wise I prefer the nexdock.
What I would really like is a NexDock with FUllHD and USB Keybooard/Mouse
I hope I gel my Nexdock soon. I was in the first 900 backers but since they put US backers first in their queue I have no idea when my ticket is up.
