In the future, I could see having up to 4.
Thermostat (wifi attached) - Model A
Audiophile DAP - Model A
TV attached HTPC, etc - Model B
Random linux uses - Model B

With the possibility of purchasing others as Christmas gifts, etc.

Heh... It sounds like it\'s going to be one to a customer for the start. So...I think I\'ll get ONE Model B to start with and then eventually get to 4-ish of them in my possession for varying projects.

I find having duplicate hardware to be a \"very good thing.\"

Two \'B\'s at first (already have a friend lined up to do the straw-man purchase if needed ;-) ).

Have to see how it goes after that.

Me too, I intend to by only one to start with so I can get myself up to speed. Then I may purchase more in the future.

Just the one to play around with at first :)

It\'s a shame they aren\'t out yet, as it would have been good to buy one for my nephew for xmas. He\'s only 9, but hey, I was programming at that age.

I'm planning on 3.

1 for NAS usage, sound connected to HiFi system.

1 for downloading, running 24/7, webcam surveillance

1 for ... spare.

One or two for me to tinker with.

One for each of my children old enough to make use of one.

As many as my local primary school can make good use of.

I would like a couple for myself and family. Also a couple for some videos I'm publishing on YouTube.

For Open Indie Project Dot Org we will need at least one for each of these projects:

Sign-language portable display device.

Emergency receiver station.

Pure-tone audio test machine.

Portable video conferencing unit (with regional medical/health database).

Small school/community centre educational resource unit (multi-language).

Other hardware/software educational resources.

Once some of these projects are fully completed, we could re-use the R-Pi boards for others.

It was suggested to me by someone who will remain anonymous that I should get the Trustees and members to purchase R-Pis themselves on behalf of the non-profit but (in all honesty) I think that would be cheating if the first boards are limited to one per person.

I'll be getting hold of a B as soon as I can as a MythTV frontend, probably through XBMC initially.  Eventually another two to do the same thing - I don't want to discriminate against any of my TV's .

And then a few more, and a few after that.  I'll come up with uses for them where an arduino just isn't up to it.

A bit cheeky to announce this on the official forum, no? The one-per-address policy is there for a reason...

I"ll be buying one when I can to get used to it and when things have settled down I"ll be buying 3 more if I"m allowed to have a go at clustering.
After that if there is a surplus of units I"ll be skipping a few nights out on the beer and get a few for my kids school, by then hopefully I"ll know enough to be able to offer a bit of support.

Just the one to start with. No point being greedy in the opening months because any extras you buy is depriving someone else of a chance to use one. Sort of goes against the spirit.

Once I've got one actually doing a task, I'll get another one later in the year for development.

Originally I was planning on five or six, but it's probably better for me just to grab one to get started, as they are all intended for different embedded applications and I'll only be able to work on one at a time anyway. Gives everyone else a better chance of nabbing one.  Plus I've just lost my job, so funds are a little tight

As astronomer Carl Sagan used to say "Billions and billions."

Well, not quite that many, but I do hope to eventually ramp up to needing an amount that requires a comma (decimal mark for Europeans) in the number.

Ideally to start with I would like 2. One to develop on and one to demonstrate on, but as we're limited to one that's what I'll go with. If my plans for them are successful? Hundreds, in the long term.

I would have liked to start with 2, but I can settle for 1.

If development goes well the company I work for may order 150 or more for an in-house application.

I would like to start with 3.

1 For a home server

2 For me to tinker

3 Form son to tinker

I am confident that there will follow more for all kind of apps especially to compartmentalise the home server because of the specs and workload.

The server would then very fast become:

Multimedia player

Groupware server

File server

The sky is the limit really.

Obviously one to start with...

My guess is that as software and add-on hardware become more available, either commercially or by hobbyists, people will buy model Bs to develop on, and model As for established purposes (at lesser cost).  For individual projects the limitations of the model A will be less significant and demand will increase over time.

One to start development.

Lateron, one for the living room as a "quiet PC", and the one or other for other rooms, to provide audio+video+browser from the network at home.

One with a Gert board or similar (I might build one myself - you just can't beat an FPGA when you need a massive, high-frequency PWM machine) to control features in my LEGO models.

One for work-related development - Maybe there will be a RPi in one of our future products?

At least one of my co-workers wants one, two others and one guy of the management board are watching closely...

Well, the problem with the A model is the lack of a native network interface, which is IMHO a bigger obstacle than the smaller RAM.

A couple for me for testing

Then I would expect 15-20 for the classes I want to run in school.

Probably two or three ultimately, but as someone said above, one at a time.
