Permanent 'Edit post' link

Thu Aug 23, 2012 11:00 pm

I know it's probably posted here but what the hell?! Why there's not that button already? Make it permanent please. People need to edit project's first post to update information without making mandatory to read thousands of posts to know them.

I'm afraid we can't do that, Dave. ;) /HAL

The reason we only make the "edit post" button available for thirty minutes after you post is an anti-trolling measure. On the old forums, we had a few instances of people deleting posts in a huff, deleting posts to make a discussion appear one-sided, deleting posts to obfuscate the fact that they'd been downright nasty so the mods didn't find out and so on. We decided that removing the ability for people to go back and do that outweighed the downside.

Thirty minutes is usually sufficient for people to notice and correct any spelling errors or similar they've made; and if you've had an epiphany that makes you think something you said earlier is incorrect, we encourage you to start a new thread about it!

Ok is there some way we could have a nominated Moderator account we could PM that could add a solved to the title where an answer has been found.

You can PM any of the mods to ask them to do that and they'll do so happily; your best bet is probably going to look at the bottom of the main forum to check which of us (if any) is online. The mods are green, the admins are red, and we can all do that for you.

That said, I tend to get a *hell* of a lot of PMs - an awful lot more than the other mods (for obvious reasons), and have to spend quite a lot of time on my inbox, so if you could preferentially send such PMs to the other mods I'd be very grateful! :?

No problem Liz I just thought it would be useful if there was a shared role that all mods could access but I have no problem with your suggested method. 8-)

Best way it to 'report' the first thread of the post with the reason ,and one of us will pick it up. This way all mods will see it and as a bonus you will also be notified when it has been done. :)

OK I allways thought reporting thread was a one shot and there was no oppertunity to add a reason so given that knowledge thats an even better solution. :)
