I just received my new pi 3 and installed Raspian. When I realized my mistake by not installing openelec I tried to install it over Raspian. Now my pi doesn't even boot up.

Anybody have a solution on how I can reset and reinstall?

Thanks,
Donny

If you have NOOBS on your SDCard then hold [SHIFT] while you boot and use the NOOBS recovery system to re-install.

If you have anything else, then use a Windows machine to re-write your SDCard.

Thank you for the fast reply. I am very new to this. I had a friend set up my first Raspberry pi 2 and one pi3 and we never used a computer during the installation. Just plugged it in and connected HDMI cable to my TV.

When you mention to hit the shift key I am at a loss.

read the boot problem sticky.

doughy means you should repeatedly press/release shift while the PI starts up, so as to re-evoke NOOBS.

Once again...There is no shift key on the Raspberry Pi. I am not using it on a laptop pc or mac. I have it connected directly to my TV.

Try doing it with a USB keyboard plugged into the Pi.

If you're using NOOBS, you'll need (at least) an internet connection. Since I don't use it, I'm not sure what the current state of OepenElec is...whether or not there is a release that supports the Pi3B.

In NoobS LibreElec is offered in place of OpenElec, as has been discussed elsewhere some OpenElec developers forked OpenElec.

To OP, yes you need an Internet Connection as per the link to the readme above states...

The NOOBS installer now installs LibreELEC https://libreelec.tv/ instead of OpenELEC.
As mentioned you will need to have an Internet connection on the RPi (wired or WIFI) in order to get any OS other than Raspbian.

If you want OpenELEC then you will need to download the OS image from their web site and install manually with Win32diskimager (Not NOOBS). http://openelec.tv/

..or use PINN for OpenElec: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=142574
