Can you tell me if the performance is better than firefox from a year ago? I tried it before and it took prob 2 min to load and several more min to get to google home page. Do you have suggested memory split settings to improve performance? I have the Pi 2B. I plan to mainly use it to display one web page with dynamic data.
Thank you.

To get working versions for Jessie without dependency problems you have to use the version for Ubuntu 14.04. You'll find it in http://ports.ubuntu.com/pool/main/f/firefox/
the main package is: firefox_51.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1_armhf.deb

Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberr
[Interested in the Thunderbird bit]
Your recipe definitely worked up to last year (+thanks!), but, (newbie diagnosis) since the last kernel update, I just get a segmentation fault when I try to run Thunderbird now.
Icedove isn't an option because it seems to be crashing all the time (seemingly randomly) and I don't think anyone has got to the bottom of it yet.
Is there a new build / repository I should be pointing at? Any advice appreciated!
Alan

I don't know. It worked for me on a fresh install of Raspbian Jessie. Maybe try sudo?

You're absolutely right. Thunderbird is happy as sudo but seg faults as a regular user. Not seen this before.
Thanks for the idea. I'll investigate while I'm procrastinating at work tomorrow...

If, after your investigating it, you still can't run it without sudo, in Raspbian you can change an application in the menu's command by right clicking on the application's icon, clicking Properties, going to Desktop Entry, and changing it where it says Command:.

Does the link work for you with a non-ESR-Firefox?
after trying around a bit I've done a complete fresh install of Raspbian today.
I do not like this Chromium and want to use the latest firefox-non-esr again. Last time I tried the manual here I have had some problems, it did not work as it should.
The link above was fine.
It tells "especially compiled for raspian, not ubuntu"
Now I am confused and as everything is complete mint here I do not want to install something wrong, so:
Is there any newer version compiled especially for the Pi than the version in the link above (50.*)?
If not, how to get the latest version on my Pi without problems as I have had? As 55 should have enabled 4 content-processes - is there already any way to get the beta of 55 on the Pi? Will e10s work on the Raspberry?Anyone tried that already?
Many thanks.

There isn't a way to install it. The daily updates builds don't work with arm.Micha1982 wrote:Hello again, fruitoftheloom wrote:viewtopic.php?f=63&t=153853#p1007192Micha1982 wrote:Any ideas how to fix that?

Ok, so in other words I can only choose between the outdated 50.* from the link above or use the ESR from repos which as far as I know completely miss e10s?

Doesn't the repo in the instructions install 54?Micha1982 wrote:Ok, so in other words I can only choose between the outdated 50.* from the link above or use the ESR from repos which as far as I know completely miss e10s?
Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberr
No, 50.0 in the link above I was talking about which is working fine,
and your posting, instructions page one in this thread (which is 54) is not working as it should, its defect.
"Firefox had a problem and crashed."
Just test it a bit, you'll see

I see what you mean. I ran it in the terminal and it returned "Segmentation fault".Micha1982 wrote:No, 50.0 in the link above I was talking about which is working fine,

EDIT: I was using a Pi Zero. I'll try it again with a Pi 2.

Fact is that my link on page one of this thread here crashes the browser.Ben_is_best wrote:I see what you mean. I ran it in the terminal and it returned "Segmentation fault".

And to me it looks that all Ubuntu-versions of Firefox behave the same.

Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberry Pi
What about ff nightly?
I've found https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-d ... ubuntu/ppa and added its key, then updated.
No errors and apt lists this source during update but when I try to install any package from there it is not found.
Would love to try firefox 57 with servo as using firefox 55 on fedora showed me that firefox is visibly faster than raspbian's chromium 60 and with servo it probably is even better.

Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberry Pi
I tried both and I use bash tab completions which yield only firefox-esr
Do these sources have to be added too?
These are on launchpad page after clicking technical details, under fingerprint
After looking through their pages, it looks like they have only source code and failed builds.

Re: Latest Version of Firefox(and Thunderbird) on a Raspberry Pi
I am running Raspbian Lite w/ PIXEL, and trying to install firefox. I tried according to OP's advice using:
The install seemed to progress, firefox 57.0 is in dpkg list, "Internet" is now in Menu Panel Applet with "Firefox Web Browser" under that, but the file size shows 0 bytes, and it crashes upon opening. Any idea what I am missing to get this installed and running on Raspbian Lite? Did I guess correctly that the key was for Firefox, and not Thunderbird? Other ideas? Thanks.
