Beginner needs isolated inputs

I was reading a magazine that there is a hat that I can put on my pi 2B that will isolate my inputs so I don't burn them out
by putting the wrong voltages on the inputs or outputs. I don't remember the item name and when I google I get a bit confused.

Does anyone have a link or name of a device that will stop me from burning out my pi by putting the power on the wrong pins?

thanks you
Gunga
