Pi Zero with Jessie hanging on "Set console font and keymap"

So I'm trying to boot this version of Jessie on my pi zero and it keeps hanging on:
Starting LSB: Set console front and keymap...
I have this 2.8" TFT display hooked up properly to the pi zero, and I'm using a SanDisk Ultra 8GB SD Card. My power supply is rated at 2000mAh. Currently when I power it up, the TFT display turns white, then turns black for an instant, then back to white while it hangs. It does not respond to keyboard inputs. The version of Jessie I'm running which was provided to me by the seller of the display is:
2'8_TS_Jessie_AIO_Aplus_Bplus_PiZero_Pi2_pi3_NiC_220320161445
What I'm really trying to do is get this TFT display to work with RetroPie, but when I had no luck there, I figured I'd try this.
