On topic, do you have a microSD card? a suitable cable to hook your Pi to your monitor?

Also, get a good power supply unit PSU capable of delivering 2.5A or better. Also, make sure it has a good two wire cable... not the cheezy round charger wires...

When you get it start programming in any language other than python.
You will be crying from indentation errors.

Personal preference. I rather like Python. Quick and simple scripting language and the indentation doesn't bother me.

hi mathboy, good to see you back... the only time indentation causes any trouble is when I loan you my truck and you put a dent in it, see...?

Do yourself a favor and use only a 16Gb card. You'll save money, and you'll have less issues. Many folks have had issues even running the 32Gb cards.

Seriously, all you need is 16Gb.

Sorry I am way to paranoid about running out of disk space so even though I should I won't.... Next question.. Will the heat sink my mom is buying me enough or do I really have to get a fan...

If you worry about disk space, I recommend getting an external USB stick of whatever size you need and use that for your user directory. I think that's better than putting in a large uSD card.

You can get a RPi heatsink kit on Ebay for under $1 shipped (!) but it doesn't do much. If you worry about heat, just leave the board open (not in a closed case) and you should be OK.

I recommend the red Samsung EVO+ models. Benchmarks the fastest in 4k random access. http://www.pidramble.com/wiki/benchmarks/microsd-cards
As mentioned above, you won't need that large of cards (32GB is way more than enough), but rather multiple cards so you have spares to test OS's out. You'll hate yourself if once you get everything setup on your only sd card and you find another OS you want to try.

The official power supply should suffice though if it's the original 2A one and not the new 2.5A you may need more power later.

Just check that your dad's Mouse and Keyboard are USB and not PS/2 connection (not Playstation 2, there was a connection format called PS/2 before the playstation came out).

I think his mouse should be but I don't know about his keyboard.. His mouse should be the Wireless Kind with Batteries with a little dongle connecting it the USB... Is that OK?
