My team members and myself are very happy to bring the community version 0.5 of the Chromium Operating System today for Raspberry Pi 2 computers and later today we will be releasing the pi 3 versions this release will have rock-solid stability, fixing various issues found in the last couple of releases and greatly improved overall performance and experience.
This release includes notable improvements to audio by integrating the latest sound drivers.
The Kernel has also seen several improvements, including updates to bring it up to version 4.2.8-ckt8 which was released only just released on April 15 2016. It also benefits from a smaller kernel size via removal of additional debugging code and other nonessential features.
Storage is now faster, by making use of the simpler and faster BFQ hierarchical scheduling algorithm, resulting in better storage performance. The on-demand scheduler has had its io_is_busy tweaked for further storage performance improvements.
The overall user experience (UX) has been improved by implementing the BFS which is now SMP aware resulting in more effective use of the multiple cores on the Raspberry Pi 2.
Video performance is more stable due to improvements and updates to the VC4 GPU driver. This fixes some of the common video modes used. This should fix common display issues on non-1080p displays and some 1080p displays.
