This may have been mentioned in the past, but I have jus been pondering the idea of it.

Once the Raspberry Pi\'s are released, I am interested in and hoping some others are, in rolling a Distro intended for the Pi instead of trying to trim an existing one down to work on it.

I am thinking of using Debain as the base and depending on of its suitable enough, using the MATE enviroment when its stable. Probably have several versions such as a Destop purpose version and one with no X server for thoses Pi\'s to rarely see a screen,

Anyone planning on doing similar?

I think the distro that we will be able to download from RaspberryPi site is just it:
- a stable, R-Pi aimed, debian distro with a office pack and other common home applications.

I\'m planning on doing both a cli server (Nas/Samba, Torrent, DLNA, ssh, FTP, static web) and a Desktop (Office, video) setup. I\'m sure world+dog are planning on doing the same, and that some people will do it much better than me ^^ I\'ll try to stick with the officially endorsed distro. even if it uses Upstart and yum ^^

I think it is better to just have a big distro ported (Debian, Fedora, etc.) or else development would suck if we had to install all the libraries the tar.gz/make way.
