At the bottom of every thread, there is an icon to return to the section that the thread belongs to. (For example this thread has an icon named 'Return to General discussion'

Would it be possible (or worthwhile) having this icon repeated at the top of the thread, next to the 'Watch' or 'Unwatch' icon (as well as the end).

The RPF uses a phpBB software and has no control of format. You would have to contact phpBB with requests.
Have you tried the Prosilver theme? IMO much better than the default Respite theme.

I'm going to sounds a bit broken recordy, but there is a revamp of the forum software due. It's been delayed sadly, due to things, but it is being looked at.
