What 4 to 7 inch LCD screen are you using?

Fri Aug 10, 2012 12:13 am

I have the RPi setup with 1600 ma/h battery, two solar panels, BT keyboard and trackpad (2.5 in by 5 in) and it all fits in a nice box I can carry around that is just 3 in by 6 inch.
I would love to find a cheap 4 to 7 inch lcd with HDMI in, 5v USB or battery powered that I can add to my portable Pi kit.

What lcd screens have you tried? I have looked on Amazon and eBay for cheap portable TV's but the closest battery powered one I found had composite input. No hdmi inputs out there that I could locate...

Any luck from anyone else?

To be honest, I don't think I've seen screens of that size with an HDMI (or even DVI) interface; I've also looked around, and I can only find either VGA or composite... I do have a small 3.5" composite LCD, which I have a few ideas for, but it'd never be a primary monitor for my Pi; at the moment, I'm sharing the DVI connection on my main computer monitor (i.e. disconnecting one and then connecting the other!)

If you want to build the screen into something you could try this (12V powered): http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-TFT-INNOLUX-A ... 6rk%3D1%26

The cheapest LCD screen with HDMI in the size range you want that I could find:

{sig} Setup: Original version Raspberry Pi (B, rev1, 256MB), Dell 2001FP monitor (1600x1200), 8GB Class 4 SD Card with Raspbian and XBMC, DD-WRT wireless bridge

most WiFi routers cannot operate as a bridge (a.k.a. Game Adapter). Cheap ones on eBay.

All WiFi routers can be re-purposed as an access point, but that's not what's needed for the Pi in this discussion.

You might want to have a look at the Screens and displays forum under Projects.

Have you tried looking into a USB powered LCD display?
