FAULTY PI3?

Hi Guys,

i have just recieved a new PI3 from the pi hut, and noticed a component that looks wrong, C99 is this the case see photo,

will it operate like is or do i need a new board or try to repair it?

In relationship to your photo, C99 should be horizontal (vertical in the small image) and attached to the empty pad just to the right of it (top of it in the small image). As we have no schematics, I can't tell you whether it's safe to operate or will behave normally as it is. I'd send it back unless you're good with a soldering iron and can correct it yourself.

Why does the forum software rotate the image through 90 degrees when it's embedded? Argh!

Being a pedant, it doesn't ;) The orientation field in the JPEG header says to rotate it 90 degrees, but for some reason when rendered as part of an HTML page that is ignored. It's displayed with the rotation if just showing the JPEG.
On the phone it comes down to the effort required to rotate the image during capture vs on render (transpose is often expensive).
Almost all modern renderers abide by the orientation field on displaying a single image - WinXP preview was the last major one I remember not doing so. But there looks to be a quirk in HTML - both Firefox and Chrome don't if part of an HTML page. Thanks for the explanation. Excuse me if I don't rotate my 22" monitor through 90° to correct this anomaly. It's bolted to the wall on a 3D-printed VESA mount. :lol:

Managed to remove and solder the device back on so hopefully all will work ok,

maybe one for the RP foundation to monitor if components are missplaced

Automated optical inspection should make this an impossibility.

Can you post the serial number from /proc/cpuinfo please?

No problem i will once i get home this evening and get some power on the board,

It seems to be running now so hopefully a little bit of soldering has fixed it.
