SD slot "click" in

Tue Mar 01, 2016 6:46 pm

I have a question about the Pi3.

On my Pi2 the SD cards "click" nicely into the SD slot and is locked until you push it again.
On my Pi3 the card just slides in and its not locked. Is this normal on a Pi3 or is my SD slot faulty?

My Pi 3 has not arrived yet (slow mail), but I got a mail from my supplier that the SD slot would not click like on the Pi 2.

No doubt cost savings played a role in this design decision, but I happen to like the positive click. So my advise to the RPF would be to go back to the clicking SD slot as soon as possible.

The card holder has been changed to friction lock, as too many people had accidents with cards being ejected unwantedly during operation of the PI (an action that may corrupt the card). On top of that there were people how broke the ejection mechanism, so the card would not stay in. So the RPF decided to change the card holder.

Mahjongg & Fruitoftheloom: thanks for your explanations.
Sometimes I see a topic about a catapult, now I understand what they are talking about :D
