CPU overheating

Thu Feb 25, 2016 6:40 am

When i start rpi the temperature of cpu will increase rapidly (less than 2 seconds),

and the rpi can also work ,but a little slow,

How does this happen?
Is there anything wrong with the hardware?
how to repair it?

what have you plugged into your RPI on the GPIO ?
RPI's are not repairable

you possibly have shorted or overloaded the GPIO and have caused permanent damage

How have you determined that it's overheating? What's the measured temperature?

i have a simple temperature detection device , when the rpi start , the temperature will increase to 68 in 2 sec

It is better to measure the internal temperature with the command vcgencmd measure_temp

Code: Select all

rpdom@raspi4:~$ vcgencmd measure_temp
temp=21.3'C

The reason behind the over heatind may be slow speed of fan or sometimes your fan stops.... you should check when computer starts..

Do you have a multimeter and know how to check voltages? If so, does the sim card module feed power into the Pi? If so, how much?

68°F isn't a problem. 68°C may show that there's something wrong and the magic smoke is due to make a bid for freedom.

It wouldn't be a problem, but it would be a bleedin' miracle unless it's sitting inside a fridge freezer box!
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

Wow! Where's that one? None of the 5 Pi I've played with so far have idled any lower than 20°C above ambient on standard clocks and uncased.

That's correct.

That particular Pi (Model A) is in a unheated building. It is running with no overclocking. It is in a case. The ambient in there was around 3°C at the time.

Another Pi, at ambient of around 17°C is currently at 34.7°C.
