How to reformat/repartition my SD card back to original size

Sat Aug 04, 2012 3:02 am

Hi,

I installed wheezy using Win32DiskImager utility on my 16 GB SD card, I want to use this card for something else. I used few formation tools to reformat my SD card but it show only 94 MB size in the card. My question is how can I reformat/repartition my SD card to original size 16 GB?

Thanks for your help.

Are you using it in a camera? Most cameras have an option to format the card somewhere in settings once you've mounted it.

disk manager on Windows will also do it but its a lot safer (i.e not accidentally formatting a local drive) to do it on your camera!

I use Windows XP. It is really simple. Click on "Start Button" on the bottom left of the XP Desktop screen, then click "run" in the startup menu, type in (or copy and paste) "diskmgmt.msc" without the quotes, find your sd card drive letter (Make sure that you have the correct drive letter for the SD card, or you may reformat the wrong drive) right click and then left click "delete partition" after that is complete, right click again and left click on "format". I format my cards in the "fat32" format. It may take up to about 2 minutes in total to do. (Or much less).
