Hey guys, love the project and have been spreading the word as much as I can
I was wondering if, once the pi is available, if there is going to be an order limit
I would like to get a couple for a few projects I have.
btw, love the feedback the dev\'s give on the forums.

Re: Order limit?
no order limit, except at the very start one/person, so that everyone can get one.

Re: Order limit?
There will be, initially. We\'ll be loosening it up later on, but at first we\'re almost certainly going to limit it to one board per customer (we\'re still working on whether it\'ll be by order, address or person).

defiantly understandable.

Re: Order limit?
BTW, I\'m for all 3: credit card # AND adress AND person should be unique ^^
Re: Order limit?
Can it be one of each type of board? (And one per address seems like the best way to keep to keep us honest
)

Dear forum: Play nice

Re: Order limit?
Hey guys,
From the looks of it the initial 25k will sell out pretty quick. Is there any word on when a second batch will be manufactured?

Re: Order limit?
My personal opinion is this... The first couple weeks (at least that is what I have read) the device is going to have the price hiked to generate some revenue for the foundation. If this being the case why limit the inital sales? I mean if people are willing to contribute some extra money to the foundation let them do it. I can wait a couple months for the excitement to simmer down. I wouldn\'t give people the time to think twice about buying a big quantity of the device.

Re: Order limit?
We\'re not hiking the price to begin with (after all that discussion…) because it made the device inaccessible to a pretty big tranche of people we want to reach; we had emails from quite a number of kids who were worried whether they\'d be able to afford one at first - and you know what it\'s like being a kid waiting for something you really, really want. Tamping down demand through limiting how many devices people could buy at once seems to us to be a fairer way of doing things, and is what we\'re planning on *at the moment*.

Re: Order limit?
So, My order for 1,000 drop shipped to the LA school district is a No-Go for now.
For now that is a joke. Not many years from now, around the start of a school year it will be for real!

Re: Order limit?
Personally I think it\'s a shame that you are not going to enforce the buy one give one for the first couple of weeks. I think you would have sold the entire first batch very quickly even at that price and then you would have 10k RasPis to give away to kids.
Of course I\'m slightly biased in that I could afford to buy one at that price... Maybe if I couldn\'t, I\'d think a bit differently!

Re: Order limit?
I will be buying two. And as a poor college student, I have been budgeted $100 bucks, and that took me four months. I need a switch, the rpi\'s, composite to vga, and ethernet cables... I would less than pleased to be only able to buy one.

Re: Order limit?
As you guys will doubtless have noticed over the last few months, it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time! If you\'re desperate for more than one at first, give a friend the money and ask them to order on your behalf.

Re: Order limit?
@AdRiley - it\'s much more productive to make sure the first batch goes to professionals/geeks/enthusiasts as these will be able to provide feed back, bug reports and docs. School kids won\'t. They\'ll just dump them as \"doesn\'t work\" even if it\'s just a ridiculous configuration detail.
Re: Order limit?
@kme : or RPi will get angry letters from those kids parents because they kept on bugging them to help them configures RPi
.. in all seriousness .. kids that bother sending email to RPi is probably more serious about RPi than half the adult in this forum. $25 or $35 is their weekly/monthly/annual allowance, if you think about it.

Re: Order limit?
Any bets on how long it takes for the first batch to sell out?
I`d guess two weeks max.
I`d guess two weeks max.

Re: Order limit?
My bet is 48 hours. 10k isn\'t many devices.
Re: Order limit?
My guess is that the biggest problem for the R-Pi team will be to hit the right mix of A and B models. My guess is 10 to 1 in favor for B, but what do I know?
Re: Order limit?
@kme I wan\'t suggesting that they give away any of the first batch. You bank the gifted ones for now and donate them next year when you have some educational uses. But hey that\'s only my thoughts, at the end of the day the foundation has put all the work in to get the project this far so it\'s completely their choice how they want to distribute the first models.
I think at this price point first batch will be sold out in a day. If the website can take the strain...

That would be cool, because I can probably think of 4 to 5 different ways to write my mailing address, excluding typos...
Just kidding, I promise I\'ll only order one first
