new Hardware?

Fri Aug 03, 2012 2:42 pm

Finally arrived! :) It seems that I get new hardware version! Finally they kicked out the horrible SD card slot. Now I have there microSD slot, which is much smaller. I like it! :D
I have a question? Do you have somebody problem with overheating? I ask because my PI has a heatsink on uP.

I disagree Rattus, I reckon he is claiming it was delivered that way. This leads me to wonder where he bought it from, and is it actually new or been modified by a previous owner.

It seems to me that the OP is being slightly obtuse. I side with Rattus.

I did something similar a while ago, http://www.instructables.com/id/Shrink- ... Card-Slot/ , your method is more solid

What is the switch for?

Probably showing my age, here, but this suggests adding a category called "The Mod Squad." :D

I suggested a RasPi modding thread. It would be nice to have a dedicated thread. So far I have seen the following Hardware Mods:

Removed LAN9512 chipset (godFather89 I believe)
Removed Ethernet Connector (Guess ^^ who?)
Removed Composite connector (godFather89 and others)
Removed USB connectors and pinned it out (oliverjenkins)
Another person hardwired the USB
Changed power connector
Changed Linear to Switching regulators
PiPass to bypass polyfuses at USB
Replaced USB fuses with 1ohm resistors
Added higher rated poly fuses (Me)
RasPi powered fans (USB and GPIO)
Added Heat Sinks. (lots of people)
And other mods I am sure I have not seen yet.

Lucker, how did you do this? Seriously - looks very cool, but please share the method.

You just need some thermal adhesive - which is basically a kind of glue - and a heatsink of the correct size. You can also buy thermal compound tape, which just comes as a sheet, and behaves like double-sided sticky tape; you cut it to size and sandwich it between the heatsink and the component you want to mount it on.

Doh. I should have been more specific.
I mean the SD card modification, not the heatsink. :-D
