Hi,
I would like to know if there is some way (tutorial,how-to or something like these) to prevent a hard disk fail in my hard drive connected to my pi2?
Thanks and sorry for my english!

No.

You must consider that all storage media can fail at any moment and lose any and all data they have on them.

Make sure you have back ups.

My SSD can tell me all kind of usage and error statistics. So I know if it is counting up a lot of errors it may be time to get a new one.

But still, it can fail, totally, at any moment.

Code: Select all

apt-get install smartmontools
and hope your USB-harddisk-controller supports this.
(Every harddisk itself since many years does support this, very most controllers today do too ...)

If you have smarttools and a mail transfer agent like postfix installed you WILL get annoying emails every day when your HD starts failing.
