Pi zero out of stock

Mon Dec 14, 2015 12:07 pm

PiMoroni and the Pi hut both have stock, maximum of 1 / customer.

Don't expect it to last long though.

Edit: as predicted, it went.

Thanks so much for this, we still have no word when to expect in Aussie - a holding page appeared in e14 then vanished and the resellers all say even their pre-orders (at £12 with 2 adapters + £4 shipping) won't be fulfilled this year.

I just got mine from the Pi hut, delivered to Australia for £7.50 total :-D
I had the idea for a single board computer in every seat on airplanes... but it all just seemed a bit Pi in the Sky!

I ordered from Pimoroni. Pi Hut doesn't deliver to Korea. :(

I paid £7.33, which is about 13,000 won. The local supplier (who has no stock) wants 19,000 plus 2,000 won for shipping.

really good price on the international shipping then, I paid £6.50 including £2.50 local shipping (which was the cheapest of the three local postage options) so £7.50 to Australia and £7.33 to Korea isn't bad at all.

It was amazing - I only popped over to Pi Hit to see what the shipping was, found it was £3.50 and jumped on it! Too many resellers over charge on intl shipping.

The reality is the 0 is probably quite a cheap thing to ship. Having family in the UK and being a Brit by birth we ship a lot of stuff. The cost of shipping is exponential to size of package. For example, I just had my brother send me 3 pi's I won on eBay in a packet (they were in their e14 boxes inside the packet) and that cost about £8. However, when we were back in the UK last year, my wife tried to send one trilby type hat back to Australia and the cheapest option from RM was £65! For Pi and arduino type things it's often not better combining shipping lol!

It is so pleasing to see that the two suppliers mentioned limit their orders to one per customer. This will favour the true enthusiast at the expense of the e-bay scalpers. The wait has not been all wasted time for me, as I have managed to build up a Jessie Lite candidate load on my model A+, knowing that as it fits in 256M it will have lots of room in the zero's 512M.

There wouldn't even BE ebay scalpers if there was enough stock - how long before supply catches demand ?
The inital 30k sellout may have caught them off guard, but there's a better view of demand now.

Around 2,000 pizeros are made per day -but not sure if that's every day as it shares production facilities with other models

I've bought one from pihut and pimoroni - but I could easily use 10-20 and will order that quantity when (if) RS/farnell get stocks,
or the 1 per customer is lifted.

I finally got one too. Had to bend over and grab my ankles paying $10 for $0.75 adapter but shipping was half what RPi store charges and they are available so not much choice. Either that or wait a few more months. Have to admit a little hesitant to order from anyone with the word "moron" in the name. But maybe appropriate since that's what I am for jumping the gun like this.

Would not ever do business there again though. Reminds me of Sparkfun, another markup artist taking advantage of desperate/ignorant .hobbyists.

May I ask why you bought the adapter from the site if you think they are too expensive ? Other sites sell adaptors.

Because I am an idiot.

I've already "won" a couple adapters on Ebay for $0.11 and $0.27 ($1 CAD, $0.74 USD buy it now). Desperate times call for desperate measures. Should consider myself lucky to get one at all but obviously would have been a lot happier if they actually stocked the advertised basic unit instead of gouging.

If you compare the kit to buying individual adaptors, it actually comes close to being the same price.

I also find It interesting that none of the single boards are in stock.

However, if you want to buy a package with high mark up items included, there's plenty left?

Where was that thread about ebay price scalpers?

Oh yeah.... Ebay. My buddy is an even bigger pi-moron than me paying nearly $40 for the same package. And he only got a one week jump on me. It gets expensive keeping up with the Joneses.

I bought one with the cables (even though I do not need them), and also threw in a Propeller HAT. How can anybody be expected to make any money at that crazy price point?

Pimoroni stands for Pirate, Monkey, Robot, Ninja (Pi Mo Ro Ni) and sounds like the name of an expensive Italian lager. [peroni] It’s pronounced Pih-mo-row-knee.
https://shop.pimoroni.com/pages/about-us

£8 for PI Zero (£4) + HDMI adaptor + USB adaptor + header pins
so £4($6) for 2 adaptors isn't that much...

Well they got the pirate part right. Actually I am grateful for them to get at least one unit in my hands and appreciate the penalty for early adopters,

It's most likely jealousy on my part for not thinking of this easy money scheme first. But they do have an interesting product line and the videos and customer support I'm sure cost them a bit.

Odd, I've never had anything but great service and product from Pimoroni. The guys who run it are familiar to the Foundation and one of them designed the Pi Logo. I've bought some stuff from them no problem (and I have a Picade which is awesome). They design and make their own stuff in house, have their own laser cutters and pick and place machines, so not exactly 'makeup' artists.

No complaints about service or business model. They are certainly a lot better than some of the scalpers out there. And besides the jealousy thing I may be a bit spoiled getting all these cool gadgets from china for $0.99 shipped. How do they do it??????

I think you need to stop taking swipes at a reputable company on a public forum.

They sell the base unit, they sell pack ups comprising of various addons plus the base unit. If you were too slow to buy the zero by itself and chose to pay for a pack up then that's your problem, not theirs.
