Nah, better not.
Provide a new name for the new image, and do not enter the same name as the source image.

Unfortunately BerryBoot will not give me the choice to install the images from an USB stick instead of downloading.

I copied the images to the FAT32 formatted 8GB stick, but BerryBoot always starts downloading.

How can I change this? Thanks.

Just a FYI from me.

I've managed to get my Pi booting from a 512mb SD card, courtesy of the "install to USB" function in Berryboot. Right now, only /boot is sitting on the SD card, with the / partition sitting on an 8Gb USB stick.

This would be of some help to those with some low capacity SD cards they wouldn't mind using up, but remember that the mileage you get will likely vary.

Berryboot also makes it easy to setup WiFi so that you can access the network fairly easily.

Do not touch the kernel and initramfs lines.

cmdline.txt

All parameters must be on a single line separated by spaces.

Berryboot specific options:

- bootmenutimeout=10 - number of seconds to wait for user input before the default OS is started.
- nobootmenutimeout - always wait for user input.
- vncinstall - for headless configurations where the Pi is not attached to a display. Login with a VNC client to the Raspberry IP.
- datadev=device - location where your files are stored (e.g. mmcblk0p2 for SD card, sda1 for USB stick). If this parameter is not present Berryboot will start a new installation.

Hello All,

Every image I install from USB results in a boot error of "fsck.ext4: No such device or address while trying to open /run/rootdev". This occurs on pimame and raspbian. I have made these images with squashfs on a debian VM using kpartx and also mounting the extracted image inside a download img. I have tried creating the squashfs image mounting read only and also without the ro flag in mount.
The reason I am trying to install from USB is two-fold, one the menu doesn't have pimame, secondly (and most important), every time I try to update an install (if previously downloaded, raspbian, openelec) it corrupts something and renders the pi unbootable. I can replace the berryboot files (minus the config.txt) and it will boot again. I guess the updaters mess with the berryboot files?
Any suggestions are appreciated. I have spent a few days on this setting up the VM, etc and am confident I have everything right, but I cannot get the OS's to load after install from USB.
Also, is it possible berryboot can be updated to use a standard downloadable image for install?

Between mount and mksquashfs, try commenting out the lines in /mnt/etc/fstab

Commenting out the entry for the root filesystem should prevent fsck being executed. The root file system is already mounted read-write by Berryboot, so you don't need it.
And commenting out the /boot entry will prevent update software from messing with the Raspberry firmware (which lacks binary compatibility, and doesn't always get along that well with Linux kernels that were build for a different version).

Sorry if Im asking stupid question. But I installed BerryBoot on my SD card. Now I have FAT32 USB stick where Idownloaded .img containing distro. But the berryboot does not recognize my USB.Should it pop up in the menu or is there some linux specific folder I need to search for to access the img?

Or should I just try other USB stick? Or does it allow to install USB stick content from windows system to the SD card?

No, only using Linux systems.
In that case you can copy the image to the /images folder on the SD card.

It seems I had broken USB stick because on other stick the IMG was available. But as you noted, it gives error of the IMG being in wrong format (Not this SF something format).

So how should one proceed to get the right IMG format? I dont have linux installed anywhere and the network list doesnt offer the right distro (pibang).

Could I have installed the pibang without the berryboot? Was that unnecesary since I only intend to just get the PiBang running.

If you only want Pibang, and do not want to give any other distribution a try, you do not need Berryboot.
Can write your image to SD card with win32diskimager or similar tool.

Yes it is, and it boots in berryboot for me. What happens when you start it?
