I can't reformat or burn new image on my noobs sd card

Tue Dec 01, 2015 10:22 am

So since yesterday i try to format my sd cards that come with noobs preinstall without any sucess. Below is what i already try to format it

- Gparted
- DD
- win32diskimager
- bootice

Gparted failed on last step

Code: Select all

Create Primary Partition #1 (ext4, 7.35 GiB) on /dev/sdd 00:00:00 ( ERROR )
create empty partition 00:00:00 ( ERROR )
libparted messages ( INFO )
Can't have overlapping partitions.
dd
no no error but the noobs files still inside the sd card

win32diskimager
no error, success write the img into the sd card but according to w32diskimager but the noobs files still exist inside the sd card

bootice
pop up some error when i want to single partition format it didnt remember what the error

I can copy paste something inside the card without problem but after unmount the card the copy paste just now dissapear.

When i try to boot it, the rainbow screen appear and after that the white screen and mouse cursor in the middle that stuck there forever.

So is my sd cards can't be use anymore or is there something i can do to fix it?

here my fdisk -l for the sd card

Code: Select all

Re: I can't reformat or burn new image on my noobs sd card

Imaging software like WIN32DiskImager (Windows) or dd (Linux) normally does not need formatting before writing.

Two options to clear a non-cooperative SD card that always worked for me:

- https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4 SD Formatter
- place the card in a digital photo camera and do a complete erase

When the imaging software then keeps complaining the SD card has to be in very poor state ..

So SD Card Formatter also fail for me, it say that my card is write protected. I already try to unlock the sd card using the adapter and also try the cmd tutorial that i find online to unlock the card

IF SDformatter complains about write protect I really suspect the hardware write protect lock of your adapter is stuck.

MicroSD cards do not have a physical lock, only normal size SD cards have that, including adapters for mini/micro sd cards.

Did you try another SD card reader? Another adapter? Do other SD cards allow writing? And are you sure the adapter is ok and in the un protect state?

I already try 3 card reader with all no success, after all the attempt to format the card, i try to boot the card on pi by pressing shift key before the rainbow screen appear and it success goto recovery mode but it take like 2minute to go there and there i can't select what distro i want cause it blank but i can move my mouse freely and only option is press esc key that boot onto openelec and stuck there until now

Did you try another SD card reader?
already try 3 card reader

Another adapter?
i only can find 1 adapter that works properly on my camera

Do other SD cards allow writing?
my other sd card (16gb) i already writing on it couple of times yesterday

And are you sure the adapter is ok and in the un protect state?
i got 1 adapter that works that being used on the camera and 1 that already can be used cause window, linux and camera can't detect it so i think the camera sd adapter is working fine and it on the unlock when i try to format it again.

so i check again and the openelec logo gone and blankscreen, so i wonder if the card can boot that far why i can write or reformat it :?:
