Will micro usb to USB hubs work with the new Pi Zero?

Sun Nov 29, 2015 5:10 pm

Hi there, going to be needing more than one USB port on my new Pi Zero, will a micro USB to USB hub work with it? Will be used for a wireless adaptor for a wireless keybaord and mouse, as well as a wifi dongle.

Many thanks, I'm quite a noob with all of this ;)

Would this do? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00S ... 1_5&sr=8-5

I was thinking of getting this normal USB hub mains powered and this micro USB to USB adaptor. Would this work?

That looks like a great hub, but is USB full size rather than micro that I need for my new Pi Zero. I will get it along with this female USB to make micro USB, can you confirm that this is correct and would work? Many many thanks!

I have used inexpensive passive USB 2 hubs with the A+ (and other members of the RPi family) for wireless mouse/keyboard and several wireless network adapters without problems: http://duinorasp.hansotten.com/usb-devi ... pberry-pi/ , of course with an adequate power supply for the RPI itself.
I expect (and will test this next week when my Zero's arrive) the Zero to behave identical with its simple power circuit.

My experience shows me that mains powered usb hubs may be required for e.g. usb external hard disks that do not have themselves external power. Otherwise a bit of overkill.

I got some 4 Port hubs with 5V2A power supply for about 7 € (have been using them on my old Pis). You could easily use them (with a USB micro adapter) and use one the ports to power the Pi Zero itself; you would have 3 remaining ports and wouldn't need a separate power supply for the Pi Zero itself.
