Playing 4k video in 1080p mode?

Sun Nov 29, 2015 2:30 pm

Is this possible?

I have a bunch of videos recorded on a phantom drone. They are in 4k, and when I try to play them on my TV using Kodi/Raspberry pie the TV turns off (no hdmi signal) because it doesn't support such a high resolution.

Is there a way to force a 4k video to play at a much lower resolution so that the TV doesn't think it's unplugged? Is there a way to force kodi to use a fixed resolution instead of the videos native resolution?

Thanks!

The only way you can watch your videos on the raspberry pi is if you convert your 4k video to 1920x1080p.
The GPU of the PI can't handle 4k videos.
By thinking like an engineer you can create a raspberry pi.

I got the PI model B, B+ and PI 2 model B.
When will I get the A? I don't know.

Is this still not possible with the Raspberry Pi3? I have many 4K videos. So converting them to 1080 would be a lot of work.

Not with hardware acceleration. All Pi's have the same GPU hardware.
You could software decode them (not in realtime) if that helps your use case.
