200gb MicroSD Card In The Pi's?

Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:48 pm

http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards

Has anyone tested the 200gb:

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-200 ... ro+sd+card

In any of the Pi's? I picked one up for a Mobile phone, on sale this weekend, but thinking about it, the 200gb really could live on a Pi Zero with Kodi on my basement HDTV when I'm done using it in the cell. Plus, it's kind of insane/cool that the storage costs more than the machine itself. (Even that in itself is amazing for stuffing 200gb into something that small.)

Should I expect any problems? I've used a 128gb in other Pi's and experienced no problems.

For the same price I get 2 USB HDDs (or one very large one), which is much faster and more reliable than any SD card.

Looks interesting. Would certainly eliminate the need for a USB hub to power an external hard-drive.

You don't need a hub to power one HDD drive.

I haven't had much luck with external 2.5" drives, without a powered hub. Are there any you can recommend that are low enough power usage to work?

Did you add max_usb_current=1 to config.txt?

What model RPI do you have.

This applies to RPi B+ & 2B with a decent quality 5V2A PSU

The other models will require a decent quality Mains Powered USB2 Hub...

I have been using the Raspberry Pi B, though I have just got the Raspberry Pi 2 B, so I haven't seen if it makes much difference.

Mind you the 200GB module looks interesting and I would imagine that it would be supported by Linux, though like anything SD, probably best used for applications where writes aren't too high - I was reading that that things like dashcams can exhaust the write cycle of SD cards pretty fast.

Yes, it makes.
The power circuitry is completely different.
On my old B model, if i attach a external usb drive the raspi reboots.
On the new pi2 (but even a b+ is the same), the usb_max_current option allows to use external hdd with no problems

You replied to a thread over 2 years old when the Pi2B was the version in question.
Your reply to this post is therefore irrelevant. Probably best not to reply to threads like this unless you hardware is like-for-like ;)

In case of SD crash, it will be 200GB crash :)
