Raspberry Pi for industry

Thu Nov 26, 2015 6:08 pm

Dear Sirs,
I'm developing a prototype of a product by using Raspberry Pi 2 B and I have to say I'm positively impressed. So, I would like to adopt Raspberry Pi as a component of the products developed and selled by the company I'm working for. Could you possibly answer the following questions:
- Does a specific Raspberry Pi exist for industrial grade?
- What about the availability in the years of a specific Raspberry Pi model? I'm asking this because changing a component implies the need to re-certificate our products and/or re-design them.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards.
Riccardo Leonardi

You might be interested in the brand new Raspberry Pi Zero or the Compute Module.
There is also a new customisation service from Element 14 that might interest you

There have been commitments in the past by RPI employees for continued availability.
Probably best thing is to get in touch with them if your order is likely to be substantial.

You want the compute module. When it was launched (or shortly after) the RPF gave some clear guidelines on how long they'd keep it in production.

About this subject : RPi in industrial world, we are currently using for our machine. What was a big hassle was the microUSB power plug : microUSB is ok in consumer world but to have a reliable (avaibility and quality) power supply and plug for production, it's a bit hard. I wonder if there's any chance that the microUSB plug can be changed to a classic barrel-plug ?

So you've not even bothered to look at the Compute Module. I guess I wasted my time posting about it for you.

Different Poster to the OP Dougie, this guy is commenting on what they are using (and presumably have been using for a while).

Thank you everybody for your answers.

I've searched into the forums but I'm not able to find official answers about:
- Long-term-availability guarantee;
- Industrial qualifications, eg shock, temperature, EMI.
I've just sent an email to info@raspberrypi.org. Could you possibly tell me if you know other people/contacts (RPI employees?) I could ask these questions to?

LIZ and PAUL WEBSTER, The customization could be useful for us.

MHTRINH, About your machine:
- Is it a product that you are selling to your customers? Or is it a machine that you are using internally in your company, e.g. for testing purposes?
- Did you get information from Raspberry people about Long-term-availability and Industrial qualifications?

DOUGIELAWSON, The compute module could be useful for us.

Thank you again

Hi
I've collected some "industrial" answers on my site.

Lots of question are however unanswered.
