WiFi activity external LED

Sat Nov 07, 2015 1:10 pm

Hello everyone. I have an issue which might be helped by your knowledge.
I got a Ralink RT5370 WiFi dongle working fine on my RPi2, but there's no WiFi activity LED on the device (it's a cheap one bought from China). So my question is: There's any simple way to get a GPIO LED working to give me the WiFi activity?
Many thanks in advance.

The context: The goal is to get a small WiFi modem for an older computer (http://jmp.no/blog/cheap-overkill-amiga-network-adapter). Everything works fine and I got LED indicators for TX/RX activity on the serial side (http://electronics.stackexchange.com/qu ... ics-rx-pin), but now I would like to also add an external WiFi indicator.

I have written a program - netledPi - to do that.

Many thanks for you for your answer. It really seems perfect for this purpose. I'll see if I can install it correctly...

It works like a charm! Now I have many LEDs flashing, and all we know how electronic devices work so much better with many LEDs blinking, especially a fake 80s dial up modem :)
Thank you Ragnar. I really appreciated your help.

Excellent!

Thank you for getting back to report how it went. Feedback is always welcome.
And yes, the more LEDs the better :)
