Hi guys! This is the first post I'm making from my raspberry :). It is running very well and I like the preinstalled programs on Raspbian (especially the free Mathematica suprised me).

I would like to install chromium (that is how I ended up at this thread). I tried to install chromium 49 as suggested in the OP. This worked fine, but it was a little laggy. I tried to enable hardware rendering, but this made chromium so slow that I was unable to use it anymore. Also, the RPi plugin wasn't working, so I was not able to use youtube (it also plays very sloppily through Epiphany). To fix this and a couple of other things I've been messing around with, I did a fresh install of Raspbian.

What is the latest version of Chromium that is compiled for Raspberry pi and has hardware support? I've been reading through this thread, but I couldn't find a clear answer.

I think it's the Chromium 49 that you can install here. Even though Chromium 50 has come out it hasn't yet been compiled for ARM processors.

The latest version with hardware support I'd around v22, not very useful. With the OpenGL driver on, hardware acceleration works but I don't see any noticeable difference.

Aw bummer. I'll still install chromium 49 then, as Epiphany keeps crashing. Youtube RPi does not work for me.

Try
ginstall-ytdl
And then try again. Did you install the extension and click the icon when at a YouTube video?

Sorry, I should be more specific :P
Last time everything worked and the RPi icon displayed as an extension, but didn't do anything when I clicked it (while watching a youtube video). I'm trying again now (that is, installing everything).

Edit: I just corrupted the image on my SD card, Raspbian no longer boots. I am writing a fresh image to the SD card and I'll try again.

Is that meant to be run from the terminal? Because I get an error when I try.

"command not found"

In general Chromium works well for me, but no luck with youtube.

Try running the instructions again and report what happens.

Sorry, I have been busy with setting up Raspbian again. Everything works fine now (finally I have glorious fullscreen smoothly playing), thank you! (I still have no idea what went wrong the first time, sorry for bothering...)

That happened to me and I just ran

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser rpi-youtube -y
and it worked.

It's not in the Ubuntu repos so I have to wait for that.

I can't use that because it's for Xenial and unstable. I need one for trusty.

The right one can be found at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/arm ... m-browser/.

No 50 version. And there's an unmet dependency on Jessie; that's why kusti8 will compile a new version (and has done so for 49).

I ran your instructions and when I use Chrome now, no matter where I try to go, I get "your connection not private" and it won't let me get to any webpages. I also see "www.google.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chromium tried to connect to www.google.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be www.google.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Chromium stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit www.google.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later." This comes up on all websites tried.

Yeah, exactly. I haven't tried compiling the Xenial version or 15.10, but the first one is unstable and might not work well at all with the dependencies. I've written a bot to compile 14.04 versions, and I'll try 15.10 when 50 comes out.

I tested my sound today and it works, but for omxplayer I have to include the -o local switch (see this thread). Is there any way to make RPi-youtube run omxplayer with this switch?
