Try googling digital signage or have a look at my Pi Presents. Use a liveshow and ftp the images to the pp_liive_tracks folder.

You could also consider the Digital Signage download from http://www.zavvio.com. When loaded onto Raspberry Pi's SD-card, and connected to TV using HDMI, the RPi will display whatever jpg files are present on USB drive that is plugged into RPi. This is a free product with standard RPi licensing. There is also another product available that will allow the displayed files to be uploaded from mobile/laptop via direct wireless connection to RPi (Wireless Web Server, requires additional licensing but is free to try).
