Started with the wireless router to assign a permanent IP address - corrected bad behaviour by Volumio.

Also stumbled on how to set up extra access points and enabled an alternative WEP SSID which allows me to re-purpose a skip load of derelict equipment. I even bought a new laptop last year because I couldn't be bothered to read the manual that came with the router. Now the old laptop can get used as a console.

Then there's the RPi side of networking. I will soon be able to implant my A+ into a host ghetto blaster, with a reliable wireless link so long as it behaves for a couple of days.

Next it's MPD, but I'm up against the BBC who are trying to pull things down.

You sure that works outside Basingstoke?

Since I'm in Switzerland, I can still skim the edge of the free satellite footprint, and get stuff through Shoutcast/Android, but I'm sure they are doing their best to strangle anything obviously being sucked through international servers. Since February, I'm not sure they are telling us everything, even if they have a plan. My personal conspiracy theory is that they are out to get the non-payers of the license.

Because I respect your advice, I'm going to try again, harder. I'm going to copy your URL into volumio and if it works I'll suffer radio 2 for a day's penance. If volumio can't handle it, I'm going to have to find out how it uses MPD and risk breaking things again.

Yeah, cheap trick on my part. If you decide to replace it, get the non-parochial one .

I'm still trying, harder and harder. I'll go for a Pi with MPD and without Volumio next to see if that is the problem.

MPC works. Volumio not so much, at least the web interface is poop.
