Preferred GPIO Protection Board?

Tue Jul 28, 2015 10:18 am

Does anyone have a preferred GPIO protection board? As in, a board that attempts to insulate the GPIO pins from awful wiring mistakes that might otherwise release the "magic smoke"?

I found something the other night, but they were all the way in the UK (I'm over here in the US) and they didn't have an international shipping option. I had to send them an email and will try begging if needed.

I'm very very lightly familiar with the concept of wiring up a bunch of diodes to achieve the same effect, but I don't have nearly enough hardware skill. I'm a complete hardware noob just barely learning what driver boards are, and I'd probably burn my arm off trying to solder anything.

Post a link.

Some kind soul who lives in the UK may be willing to act as a package forwarder for you (for the price of a stamp or three).

This is the one: http://rasp.io/breakoutpro/

But thinking about it a bit more ... even shipping an envelope from US to UK is so expensive. It'd make the $13 part cost like $40 or more. Ouch.

Any US leads?

Best bet is to ask Alex Eames - he's the owner of Rasp.IO. He may have a US distributor or may be able to give you a low cost shipping option. Alex is on Twitter https://twitter.com/RasPiTV

Postage for a small packet to the US is less than $10. If you want it tracked and signed for (safer option) then double it.
