Raspberry PI + 3G Dongle

Wed Jul 01, 2015 9:08 am

Good Day,

I have been trying to setup a stable 3G connection on the PI using a USB modem.

After figuring out the various components involved i.e. usb_mode_switch, sakis3G and umtskeeper I found that this approach is not very efficient. My load average runs very high with sakis3G not leaving much room for additional applications, in my case audio encoding and streaming.

Can anyone suggest a way to setup a stable 3G USB modem connection with low CPU overhead?

Kind Regards,

Hi,

So can I assume the "usb_mode_switch, sakis3G and umtskeeper" combo is currently the only way to maintain a 3G connection using a dongle?

This easily eats away just over 50% CPU resources.

I have tried overclocking + setting governor to performance as well as disabling some of the "nice to have" features of sakis and umtskeeper like verbose logs and http server statistics.

Any further suggestions are appreciated?

Kind Regards,
