kweb/omxplayerGUI can play them. youtube 1080p comes in a very special format (completely stupid in my view) with separate audio stream and that doesn't work with any player on the RPi right now. And 1080p60 is beyond the GPU specification anyway.

Kodi does not support 1080p video (at any framerate) from YouTube due to lack of DASH support.

As for 1080p video at 60fps on Raspberry Pi 2 (not from YouTube), such as this Big Buck Bunny clip playing with Kodi or Omxplayer, this is not officially supported.

However, it can be done with considerable overclock...
Caution: This will void the warranty if added to /boot/config.txt :

Code: Select all

arm_freq=1000
sdram_freq=500
core_freq=500
h264_freq=750
isp_freq=750
v3d_freq=750
over_voltage=2
force_turbo=1 # Voids Warranty!

The example video runs well for me with just:

Code: Select all

gpu_freq=500
In config.txt. No other overclocking required.
