This forum not rendered fast on Midori.

Mon Jul 16, 2012 4:06 pm

Is it just me but accessing this forum suck the life out of my Raspberry. It just holds my processor busy 100% of the time with Midori.

Other websites load, and get done with it even when there is loads of graphics, but not this forum. I want to type, read and browse this forum with my Raspi, but it is impossible.

Any help?

I was expecting a complaint about our community ;) Are you using Debian wheezy (in Raspbian or non-Raspbian form)?

Are you using the 'prosilver' board style? (in User Control Panel -> board preferences)

If not, you may find that to respond better than the default 'raspite'.

I've seen it mentioned several times that the forums work better on the Raspi in Chromium http://elinux.org/RPi_Guides#Installing ... eb_browser

On my Raspi the forums are much more functionally dysfunctional on Chromium LOL.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.

You've completely lost me. :? I have no idea what you are referring to. I have switched Midori to be seen as an iPad, but it does not make any difference on this forum. The Ipad setting is a lot better on my most frequently visited site on my Android, www.weathersa.co.za.

No complaints about the forum. I've started out with the original, then a lot of set-ups and eventualy an "rpi-update." I have no idea what I currently have or supposed to have, but my mongrel system do work as NAS, web server, WiFi and some bits and pieces from everywhere. I just follow the guides in general until it work.

It's a style setting for this forum. The default one is called 'raspite' but there is a generic, and basic, one called 'prosilver'. I'm not certain it will help but I have noticed speed improvements on other forums using the 'prosilver' board style.

To change it:
Click your username at the top of the page (next to the black head)
This takes you to the User Control Panel.
Click 'Board Preferences'
Scroll down a little bit to 'My Board Style' and change it to 'prosilver'
Scroll to the bottom to 'Submit'

I attempted to use Midori on the RPi to make my first post but it was unuseable (on the Debian Sqeeze distro). I noticed that the smilies on the right hand pane of the textbox were grinding the whole system to a halt. After scrolling down the page so that the smilies were no longer present, the page became much more responsive.
Thankyou for letting us know about the differing board styles and providing clear instructions on how to set it, I'll give it a go and see if that makes any difference.

Cheers,

You should find the forums much more responsive if you switch to Rasbian Wheezy :D

What i found out so far:

1) activate the extension "statusbar features"
now you can turn netscape plugins and scripts off most of the time so that sites dont max out the CPU.
If a page needs java script you can turn it on very conveniently.
2) do your typical multi tab searches in Dillo copy the URL over to Midori in which you only have 1 or2 tabs.

3) there where some tweaks I found on reddit, cant tell you how much they really do but I think a little.

PS:
And yes opening especially this site here gives me close to 100% CPU even with scripts off in Midori.
