I have a Gigabyte G41M motherboard which claims to have higher output USB ports which are meant for charging iphones/itouch etc and these USB's are available even when the PC is powered down (but not when switched off from the power socket.).
Would I be able to use these to power my Pi if I have to correct USB to Pi lead ?

Re: Powering the Pi from PC
yes,
please note - most pc's will power the RPi from 1 usb slot [well all the ones I have tried - which is not most pc's but YMMV]

Re: Powering the Pi from PC
Don't! The Raspberry Pi doesn't negotiate for power with the PC, so you can be chuntering along happily for ages and then suddenly find that the PC has stopped giving you the power you need. We do NOT recommend you use a PC or laptop to power your Pi.
