Newark US, charging more than receipt amount?

Wed Jul 11, 2012 11:45 pm

Back on May 12, 2012 I was able to place my order with Newark/ elemant14, The order was painless and confirmed. They gave me an expected ship date of "16 Aug 2012".

My final order was as follows
Merchandise Total: $35.00
Freight: $6.57
Tax: $2.49
Order Total: $44.06

At the time of placing my order they did not charge my payment source, I knew they probably would when time got closer, but I wasn't aware of any extra fees.

I was charged $50.75 today. I am not arguing nor will I raise a fuss as to not disrupt the order but I do want to know if this is normal and has anybody else experienced this.

Ordered mine May 7th it shipped today too.
They charged me less than what the online amount says.

Merchandise Total $35.00
Freight: $6.55
Tax: $2.91
Order Total: $44.46

My invoice I got in an email says:
our Merchandise Total $35.00
Your Freight Total $5.00
Your Tax Total $2.80
Your Invoice Total $42.80
Sale in USD
Your invoice was paid by credit card. No balance is due.
I'm in Kentucky.... Might be tax and shipping differences... I'd call them and see what they say.

I am in CA and they charged me 35.00 for Raspi.
5.00 for shipping
and 2.54 for tax

My brother got his and did not have to pay taxes and he lives only a few miles from me.
They seem to be some what inconsistent.

From some of my reading though those of us in the USA are getting a much better deal overall than many other countries.
Newark did post a pricing and shipping rate that originally said 35 for Raspi, 5 for shipping and local taxes if applicable.
If you are more worried about ,spelling, punctuation or grammar you have probably already missed the point so please just move on.

You don't find it just a little bit disturbing that a company allows it self to charge you more then you agreed to pay when ordering?
If the grand total of your order came to 44.06$ then they can't charge your credit card a higher amount without notifying you and getting your consent to it. Even if it was only 0.01$ more, let alone 6$...
Unless of course they said on their order confirmation that they retain the right to charge you any extra amount they want, without asking you first. In that case I personally wouldn't agree to such a thing...
6$ from you, 3$ from someone else, 5$ from another guy X 1000 orders amount to quite a bit....

My invoices have been for $42.80 but the pre-authorization was for $50.75. In the past their actual billed amount matched the invoice. Perhaps the pre-authorization is for their highest shipping cost?

My advice would be to wait until the charge actually posts to your credit card and then you can complain to their credit department.

newark at least do a pre-auth for a greater amount of your order and it takes a few days for it to "fix" itself after they actually take the money. i spoke to a CS agent about this once and they said they normally do the pre-auth for between 10 to 20% greater than your order total. they pre-authed just over $50 for my Pi which turned out to be $43 and change, the difference took a week to show back in my balence
