which distro would suit me ?

Tue Jul 10, 2012 1:44 pm

Debian , Arch or QT ?
My background is in embedded C and C++(on old hardware like V25) , and also developing for windows in C , C++ and VB. I know absolutely nothing of Linux(but I am self taught on the above, and other languages too like pascal and fortran) but am a fast learner. Initially my main area of coding on the RPi will be in comms(TCP/RS232/RS422/RS485) and after reading up on all 3 images I am leaning towards QT .

All constructive comments will be welcomed 8-)

Grab the wheezy beta: http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1435

The QtOnPi image is out of date, and the wheezy image contains a newer Qt5 if that's what interests you http://qt-project.org/wiki/RaspberryPi

It's marked 'beta' but it's long since surpassed the old squeeze image. The only reason we haven't marked it final is that this week upstream Debian wheezy has quite a lot of changes going on, so it makes sense to release an image once that has calmed down.
