Forum problems

Sun Apr 05, 2015 9:49 pm

Where do I post about forum problems? I don't see any forum listed for site issues, nor any help forum that's not dedicated to a topic. I won't go into it here, it's likely not the correct forum but the closest thing I could find, could someone point me in the right direction?

This general section is as good as any for reporting forum problems.

Try 'egosearch' (http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/searc ... =egosearch). I don't think there's a link for that in the Raspite theme, so you'll have to bookmark it.

I'm not getting email notifications when someone replies to a thread. I was receiving them at first then it stopped.

I have cleared browser history and cookies.
I have turned on notification in my control panel, didn't work, turned off again for a day, then turned it back on, still doesn't work. I have tried turning it off and using the manual "Watch" button for each thread I reply to, that doesn't work either.

As an example, with this thread, there is a check already in the "Notify me when a reply is posted". I don't have a "Watch" button only an "Unwatch" button and an "Unsubscribe Topic" link. And if I go into my Control Panel this thread is listed along with all the others that I have subscribed to, but I'm not getting any notifications. I had to come back to this forum to see if anyone had posted a reply.

Edit to add:
I checked my email Inbox and the last reply I got was on 3/31/2015 at 5:14pm, I haven't received one since.

Check your spam folder. That stuff is working for me.

Watch works for me. I'm not sure what's wrong. Are you sure that your email is not being marked as spam and is correct?

Spam and Trash were the first places I looked. Nothing in there.

On April 1, I started seeing these in my mail server log:

Code: Select all

reject=553 5.1.8 <[email protected]>... Domain of sender address [email protected] does not exist
It seems like the domain name forums.raspberrypi.org doesn't have an IPv4 number and my mail server didn't like that. The domain name does have an IPv6 number.

We migrated the website to a new server cluster on 1st of April I believe - this may be related.

Someone spam me a PM, please.

I usually put forum glitch notices in "Off Topic" (when i find them).

I suppose, in a way, "General" and "Off Topic" end up meaning about the same thing...
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

Mail came through fine for me. Perhaps mail servers that don't look for AAAA records are the only ones affected?

The AAAA record is fine.
It's mail servers that only look for the A record* that are affected.

A mail domain should really have MX records. Not all servers verify return addresses at all, but those that do are unlikely to accept a bare AAAA that does not even have port 25 open.

When i'm join Android section it was wrong.
The android section was locked, and now looks like a mess when looking at it with the raspi theme, it seems nobody cares here about that, as there is nothing to see there anyway.
If you still want to have a look at it use the prosilver theme, it looks okay in that.

After reading the above posts about the possible mail server problems, the fact that it was changed on April 1 and the last notification I got was on March 31, I changed my account to use a different email address and I'm now getting the notifications again.

I was previously using a Cox Communications email account and I guess they are verifying return addresses so it wasn't getting through. I do get very little spam on the Cox account, that must be the reason, if they can't verify the return path is good it gets dropped in the bit bucket and never even makes it to my spam folder.
