Re: USB to VGA

Dont worry, I know the whole issue with VGA at the moment, been round long enough to know.

Thing is though, theres alot of USB to VGA adapters on places like ebay. Yeah £25 is more than the R-PI itself, but would one of these actually work with the R-Pi, rather than users having to get HDMI monitors.

Personally, I have a DVI-I / DVI-D enabled montor so I will be having a HDMI to DVI cable anyway.

USB to VGA adapters are a *really* bad solution to the VGA problems. They\'re just a software emulation of a video card. As such that means it relies completely on CPU and RAM power to drive it. A lot of the adapters claim that all you need is a VGA port, but the more honest ones list hardware requirements and it usually starts off at 1Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM minimum for 480P resolution. I had a customer support center die because they insisted on using these adapters.

Well... I wouldn\'t call it a bad idea, just a harsh reality :(
