PSU Monitor

For android we have an app called Ampere https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... pere&hl=en and Charging Monitor https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ar.example used to monitor usb charger quality/health basically by monitoring its current draw, is something like this possible on the pi??

Not possible.

The power management (the small under voltage rainbow square and winking power light) stuff is all done in GPU code and not externalised on any userland interface. Since the RPi isn't designed to run from a rechargable battery it's not needed anyway.

Of course, there are lots of folks running them from LiPo batteries, solar arrays, etc. and there's even Dr. Stanford-Clark with his HyPi that runs from a hydrogen fuel cell.

With the modern lightweight and high capacity battery technology you do not have other possibility than to closely monitor the battery charge state. Otherwise the battery life might be very short or it might even explode. The measured voltage does not tell you practically anything about the charge state.

Yes it is possible to build similar microcontroller supervised charger/monitor for Raspberry Pi too. Weather that is a good hobby project is then an other question. Personally I am using only sealed lead acid batteries, which are an exception to the rule above and you can tell their charge state from the measured voltage. This is the PIC project in my github with a daemonized monitoring service running in the Raspberry Pi.

It is such a shame that this could not be made available in some manner in software. So many of us, myself included run headless and it would be helpful to be able to monitor this information remotely.

As it is, with all the voltage issues I am having I am considering installing an ADC with my pi and trying to monitor that way. Maybe something like https://www.abelectronics.co.uk/product ... -converter to simply the dev cycle.
