USB & Ethernet not working

Mon Mar 02, 2015 3:04 pm

Hi guys,

I just got 10 RP B+ and all of them have the same problem, which I believe it is manufacture related. USB and Ethernet don't work. I doubled checked power supply (5V stable, 2A), kernel and fw are fine (I've used the same version for months). Since it happened with 10 RP, I'd say there was a problem with the whole batch.

I've read about this problem (http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5766) and it appears to be with the clock not getting to LAN9512 and thus, this doesn't have an easy solution.

Since all I read about people with this problem is from 2012, I'd expect RP people to have fixed it by now. Does anyone else encountered this problem with B+? Is there any solution that doesn't require sending back the RP or the need of a NI Freq generator?

Your firmware is not up to date.

Use a more recent version.

Thanks a lot!

Is there a way to update fw without having to flash my SD card? (since I can't login nor ssh)

no, you have to have the correct firmware or the board will not boot - write a new raspbian on to a card and test that one

If you have an older Pi that the SD card did boot in, you can plug it back into that Pi and do a "sudo rpi-update" which will update the firmware on the SD card to the latest.

Get a USB SDCard reader, build a brand new card with 2015-02-16 Raspbian (or if you insist with NOOBS 1.4). Boot that in the RPi B+, mount the old SDCard and copy firmware and stuff from /dev/mmcblk0p1 to /dev/sda1 (and from /dev/mmcblk0p5 to /dev/sda5 if using NOOBS).
