Best cheap/working wi-fi dongle

Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:21 pm

I know a bunch of dongles have been tested, but I kind of want an idea of which of those work the best and if anyone has experience with one that was relatively cheap and worked really well

I'm using one of these for over 2 weeks now 24/7 with no issues, I've been using it to syncronize my ebook collection to the cloud and it has uploaded over 25GB with rsync.

I got a netgear n-150 that was plug n play with wheezy. Probably not the very cheapest out there though.

That is the micro one, I got the standard size as it was a bit cheaper.

Hey,

I am greatly interested in both adaptors you mention:

http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-Wireless- ... 50+adapter

And:

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Micro-Wire ... +surf+n150

Can you confirm me that they work out of the box with OpenElec? Does it also work fine in Debian (despite having to install some packages). I also want it to be able to work without a powered hub.

Many thanks!

Josep

I have not tried openElec.
I have only used it with Debian wheezy.
It worked without installing any other packages.

I think I may have to install a driver for the Netgear for Squeeze, but that's listed on the elinux wiki so I'm not worried.

The Belkin one mentioned is not on the wiki but a very close relative of that one is, so installing the same driver may work for that one.
