China made Rpi2? -- Minor Construction issue

Sat Feb 21, 2015 6:27 pm

I purchased an Rpi2 from a large Element14 distributor here in the States.
I've had some issues with the unit, so they are sending me a replacement.
(Element14 and their distributors are doing a great job!)

When I was carefully looking over the unit, I noticed that the USB power connector was mounted a little crooked.
This makes me think that I might have a unit that was fabricated in China, instead of the UK.
I'm used to seeing sloppy work in products from that direction of the world, not in the Raspberry Pi's I've previously ordered.

What ways can I tell the difference between the units from China and the ones coming from the UK?

Thanks
Jeff

You can get the manufacturer from
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'Revision'

It should be silk screened on the board itself. (Made In UK, Made in PRC).

As far as I know, the China production should be the same quality as the UK production. They have made a lot, and I've not heard anything other than this report on manufacturing defects (which of course can happen to anyone, but hopefully at a very low percentage).

Oldbit - could you post a picture please? (It'd be useful for when I next talk to Farnell.)

The connector is slightly crooked, which is detectable to the eye, but hard to see with my cell phone camera.
I'll try to get a good shot of this next week for you when I get back into my shop where I have a better camera.
