Powered USB Hub

Fri Feb 20, 2015 3:24 am

I'm currently running a single older B+ model from a spare iPhone charger. Hasn't been an issue yet at all. But I'm just about to order up 4 Pi 2's, and I'm just wondering if this USB Hub charger is sufficient to provide enough juice for each one.

Is states that it can output 1.5A to each of the USB Charged devices. But 2A to non data-transfer attached devices... so surely that'd be 2A to each USB Charged device not 1.5A? Kinda bad wording on their part perhaps. But I can get this model from my local Amazon JP site here, rather than the US one.

Is this hub good enough for 4/5 Pi's?

Check the maximum current rating. It uses a 12V 5A PSU, which means is 60W. 2A at 5V is 10W, so it should be able to handle five Pis without any problem, especially as their USB supplies seem to be stable and each Pi is unlikely to need the full 2A.

I'd say it sounds good.

Just make sure you use decent cables with it. Thick and short, just like me ;-)

Yeah I'm just not good with working out electrical stuff :-) Software is far easier to fix and work out, for me anyway.

At most, each device might have 3 (or 4) 2GB NAND MLC's stuck in. But no other expansions or full HDD's at all. So any idea what the power drain would be on that?
