Re: DietPi | Minimal Raspbian. Optional "ready to run" softw

Fourdee, Thank you for making dietpi. I am a total convert. I use it on all my Raspberry Pi projects. I created an instructable for how I setup Raspberry Pi with DietPi:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Setup-R ... Monitor-o/.

If possible, it would be nice for DietPi to work with a USB to serial cable. This can be accomplished with one change:

Code: Select all

/boot/cmdline.txt
to include:

Code: Select all

console=ttyAMA0,115200

Took a look at your tutorial, excellent stuff!
I've never owned a mac (Apple IIGS was the last one i used lol), so its great to see how users would setup DietPi with one :)

We disable the serial console to save resources on the system. I will look into creating a option to enable/disable the serial console in DietPi-Config: https://github.com/Fourdee/DietPi/issues/306

fourdee4d, thanks for this dude. This is easily the best image availible for the pi. How it isn't all over youtube I have no idea. Keep up the great work, all my pi's are running your OS.

Hi big45-70,

Thanks for the feedback and good to hear :)
How it isn't all over youtube I have no idea.
Yep, we seriously lack any Youtube coverage. All my spare time is dedicated to improving DietPi (eg: coding, debugging, updates) and supporting our users.
We really need the support of our users to change that and help spread the word.

Hi Tumbe,

Thanks for the feedback, appricate it.

Regarding your screen offset, you might need to enable overscan. This can be done by DietPi-Config:
- type "dietpi-config" (without the quotes) and press enter.
- Goto "Display Options"
- Select 2 Overscan:
- Select "Enable"
- Exit DietPi-Config by pressing ESC
- Say yes to exit, and yes to reboot

This should resolve your issue.

If the issue still occurs, it could be your using a 16:9 resolution (default is 1280x720 , 720p) on a non 16:9 monitor. You may need to manually edit the config.txt file and set framebuffer_width= and framebuffer_height= to your supported monitor resolution.
You could also try PC1/3 resolutions (4:3) in DietPi-Config.

Let me know if you have any issues.
Hi, I too need to enable overscan, due to rasppi picture being larger than 1080p screen. However, uncommenting the overscan values in the config.txt get overridden at reboot. Simply enabling the overscan doesn't do the trick.

How to edit config.txt so the (overscan) values would be persisted?

Hi,

We mount the config.txt file and all dietpi scripts to ramdisk during boot. This improves performance, reduces SD write cycles and increase SD lifespan.

When editing the /boot/config.txt file, you will see this text at the top :)

Code: Select all

#Modifcations to /boot/* files, will not be saved when powered on.
#Please ensure you edit from the DietPi-RamDisk location /DietPi/*
So you'll need to make changes to /DietPi/config.txt when powered on.

Hi,

Thanks for the report.
I'll need to see your system configuration and settings to try and resolve this. Please can you send a bugreport: http://dietpi.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=499#p2184

Looks like a nasty filesystem corruption. Which PSU and SD card model are you using?

Thanks for the bug report.

Looks like a nasty filesystem corruption. Which PSU and SD card model are you using?
I was using an old sandisk sd card , and powering via modem usb port ~

Hi,

Not sure I follow. Are you unable to change the static DNS server in dietpi-config?

Or, are you trying to change PiHole's DNS server?

Optional: Change the DNS server that Pi-hole uses:
DietPi will setup Pi-hole to use external Google DNS servers. This is usually a good choice for the majority of users, but it can be changed if required.
Edit the following file /etc/dnsmasq.conf
Modify the entries server= as required (eg: server=123.456.78.9). 2 server entries maximum.
Once completed, restart Pi-hole with dietpi-services restart

I meant even after selecting static dns [google dns] it still shows 127.0.0.1

Bizarre.
Any chance you can upload/paste your /etc/network/interfaces file so I can take a look?
NB: Remove any WiFi keys before hand.
