Firstly I apologise for posting this as I get the feeling that many people like me have asked.

But, I am looking to order a micro usb lead for my Pi shortly and wanted to know if anyone has run it from an Apple USB charger? it gives 5volts @ 1amp so I cannot see why it won't work but just wanted to check.

Its a Model B Pi btw.

Thanks
Kris

I have used both iPhone 1A and iPad 2A chargers successfully. You will find both of these on the list of 'known good' devices at http://www.google.com/search?q=elinux%2 ... 20verified

I've tried two 2A iPad chargers and neither worked properly. With keyboard/mouse and ethernet connected I get a measurement of around 4.25V from TP1/2. Could be a fault of the cable, but it's the only one I have.

If they're Apple brand chargers, then it is definitely the fault of the cable.

I think Jeremy's right.
A lot of the cheap USB cables on ebay seem to be quite high resistance and cause large voltage drop. Kindle cables are pretty good. You can buy a Samsung branded USB to micro USB cable for less than three pounds and that should be OK as well. :D

I have both iPad and iPhone chargers. They work best with the shorter USB cords. The 6ft (2m) cords have to much resistance and drop voltage.

thanks for the replies guys, good to know that they work fine, I'm going to look for a shortish cable (i was aware of the whole voltage drop vs length issue).

I've got the memory card and bits just need a way to power it lol :)

I think you will find that the iphone charger is rated at 1 amp while the ipad charger is rated at 2 amp. Both are 5 vdc or thereabouts
