All of it?

What OS have you installed? Raspberry Pi OS, or another? Lite, Standard, Full?

What have you added?

What chages have you made?

How have you configured Samba?

We cannot read your mind.

To add to that:

What network hardware you're using with the zero (or is it actually a zeroW?)

The output from

Code: Select all

testparm -s
What error message, if any, is present in /var/log/syslog.

What you have tried yourself to resolve it.

Whether you've connected a monitor, and if so what error message(s) were displayed on it. If you haven't done this, come back when you have.

Rasperry pi os standard
only samba/smbd

its just a normal raspberry pi os install with samba installed

Use a high quality power supply and see if the problems go away.

Also this is acting as a backup server so this needs fixing quickly

Demands for a quick fix usually don't result in one unless you're demanding it from a paid support service.

And you still haven't provied anywhere near enough and specific enough information for anyone to help.

Unsubscribing from this thread now.

I come on here for help and you should understand why it needs doing quickly if its for backups.

and what other information can i say.
its headless, I don't know what's crashing it

Whether it's for backups or not I'm not a mind reader. Also, I and no one else on here is paid or required to help you. We're all volunteers.
i have about half a backup of my system
That's unfortunate but not something I or ayone else can do anything about. It's also not a reason you should be expecting paid levels of support.
and what other information can i say.
Start here viewtopic.php?p=1862909#p1862686 and here viewtopic.php?p=1862909#p1862666 (Your answer of nothing to "what have you added" is clearly not true. A zero has no network interface so there is little point in running samba on it). then add
  • The output from

    Code: Select all

    uname -a
  • The output from

    Code: Select all

    cat /etc/os-release
  • As already requested, the output from

    Code: Select all

    testparm -s
  • Also as already requested details of any errors perent in /var/log/syslog.
its headless, I don't know what's crashing it
Neither do we. We're not psychic, we don't have access to your Pi, and the information you've provided is vague at best.
And I was never demanding it
Maybe not in those words but that's how your post came across. You are certainly putting pressure on us with "this needs fixing quickly". If you want profession levels of support you need to pay for it.

Really unsubscribing now.

It's an interesting idea to use a Pi Zero as a backup server. Have you connected a USB hub? Are you storing the backup on an SD card or a USB attached disk. I had good luck with a USB Ethernet adapter. Which network adapter are you using?

Nothing to do with it crashing but it’s an external hard drive and my usb WiFi adapter is the one by the pi hut https://thepihut.com/products/usb-wifi- ... spberry-pi

How are you attaching USB Peripherals to the single USB Port ?

I would expect that you are overwhelming the USB I/O and the Single Core ARM CPU Zero is running out of resources..

Use your RPi 4B and see if that makes a difference ;)

The total USB power (not per port) on a 4B is 1200mA using the Official PSU:

My suggestion is to try clocking the zero at 700 MHz using the config.txt file to see if that improves the stability.

Mine is that you (OP) provide the infomration that's been asked for several times now or buy a self powered USB hub (or self powered drive enclosures) and use the 4B.

No. You haven't.

You have yet to post any of the following:
  • The output from

    Code: Select all

    testparm -s
  • What error message, if any, is present in /var/log/syslog (I did not ask for all of it)
  • Whether you've connected a monitor, and if so what error message(s) were displayed on it.
  • The output from

    Code: Select all

    uname -a
  • The output from

    Code: Select all

    cat /etc/os-release
  • What you have tried yourself to resolve it. Though I'm guessing the answer to that is ask for help on the forum
But don't bother. My patience has finally expired.
